"Thirteen personnel have tested positive of which 2 are players. All the affected personnel as well as their close contacts are asymptomatic and have been isolated from other team members. They are being monitored by the IPL Medical Team," the BCCI press release stated.

The release stated that a total of 1,988 RT-PCR COVID-19 tests were carried out between August 20 and 28 across all participant groups in the UAE.

These include players, support staff, team management, BCCI staff, IPL operational team, hotel and ground transport staff. "As per the IPL 2020 Health and Safety Protocols, testing on all participants will be conducted regularly throughout the IPL 2020 Season," it further stated.

All positive cases need to go through a 14-day quarantine period following which they will have to return two negative RT-PCR tests before being allowed inside the bio-bubble for the tournament.

"Suresh Raina has returned to India for personal reasons and will be unavailable for the remainder of the IPL season. Chennai Super Kings offers complete support to Suresh and his family during this time," said Kasi Viswanathan, the CEO of Chennai Super Kings on Saturday (August 29).

It has not been clear yet what has made Raina to return home urgently. It comes as a big blow for Chennai Super Kings after a pacer and 11 of their support staff members were tested positive for Covid 19 on Friday (August 28).

Chahar and those others who are tested positive for Covid 19 will enter a mandatory 14-day quarantine and will have to undergo three further tests before rejoining the CSK fold.

Now, Raina's return will force the Chennai Super Kings to look for a replacement for him for the IPL 2020. Raina has remained a big part of the Chennai Super Kings since their first edition from 2008, and has been their most popular star after captain MS Dhoni.

Chahar and others those who tested positive will be in isolation for a period of 14 days and he will have to undergo further Coronavirus tests before rejoining the Chennai Super Kings squad. However, the BCCI authorities, as per ToI, said there was no immediate threat to the IPL 2020 but now it will take some more time to announce the tournament match schedule.

"Adequate measures are in place to tackle the situation and there is no immediate threat to the tournament. But the announcement of fixtures has been delayed because of this development," said a BCCI official.

The Chennai Super Kings had conducted a five-day training camp at the M A Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai, before their departure to the UAE, the venue of IPL 2020. The BCCI official said the governing body had cautioned the Super Kings about the dangers of such a camp.

"Senior BCCI officials had cautioned the CSK management about the risks of holding such a camp in India. Anderson, 38, reached the latest landmark of a phenomenal career this week when he took his 600th Test wicket in England's draw against Pakistan at Southampton.

At the other end of the age bracket in Root's Test side, batsman Ollie Pope is facing an extended period on the sidelines with a shoulder injury.

The 22-year-old dislocated his left shoulder while fielding against Pakistan at the Rose Bowl and an MRI scan confirmed he would require surgery, necessitating a four-month recovery period.

A league source revealed that all COVID-19 positive results came during day 1, 3 and 6 of testing after the contingent's landied in Dubai. The IPL is due to begin on September 19.

"Yes, a right-arm medium fast bowler, who has recently played for India, along with a few staff members have tested positive for COVID-19," a senior IPL source told PTI on conditions of anonymity.

"As far as we know, one of the senior-most officials of the CSK management and his wife, and at least two members of their social media team are also COVID-19 positive," he added.

The development has forced CSK to extend the quarantine period for the touring party till September 1.

According to the BCCI's Standard Operating Procedure (SOP), all those who test positive are mandated to go through an additional seven-day quarantine.
